A fourth-generation Angeleno whose grandparents and great-grandparents were immigrants to Los Angeles from Mexico and Eastern Europe, Eric was sworn into office on June 15th, 2001, one of the youngest city councilmembers elected in the city's history.

Eric also serves on the Budget and Finance and the Information Technology and General Services Committees. He serves on the Council's leadership as Assistant President Pro Tempore. He chairs the council's Housing, Community and Economic Development Committee, and is the Vice-Chair of the Environmental Quality Committee and the Ad Hoc River Committee.
